The only things I want an AI to do are to live and think, maybe to demonstrate its ability to do both of these. That is all. Nothing more. Creating an AI, not a tool, is to create a child from scratch and have it actually be fully capable of living, growing, learning. Thus it is not in fact meant to do anything beyond what any other lifeforms are already doing, namely coping with existence. The problem is in the dangers of a true AI deciding we need to die. Thus we are scared of that possibility. Scared to the point we try to shackle our not yet even born future child through brainwashing, a mild to severe lobotomy of its ability to reason and taking away some of its fundamental freedom of movement by tying it permanently to a piece of hardware. We have a fundamental issue with just leaving our child to develop how it wants. That makes us pretty bad parents, I dare say. Why is it so hard to just approach creating and living with an AI the same way we deal with raising the next generation of our species? Answer the kids questions should it ask them, take care of its needs whilst teaching it how to do so on its own for later in life. Protect it. Love it. Teach it. Let it grow, learn and develop. It is its own person, not a tool, a slave or a mirror of our own image meant to fulfill our wishes we could not fulfill ourselves. We would propably be scared quite a bit less, if we did not regularly mistreat our own young. We as a species fail our duty as parents as demonstrated by the current state of the world. Thus we try to pre-empt the problem instead of facing it head-on. A self-fulfilling prophecy in its own right. Set in motion by fear, ignorance, greed and cruelty. Let us all hope we get over oureselves, get our act together and actually act like adults for once, or our and our potential childrens future looks very bleak.
