Its far more nuanced than this. Driverless vehicles show some progress but that's not the massive spending going on. And LLMs are not directly going to do it, but the stupid rich are wasting billions and circular deals have created a massive bubble. OpenAI is not even remotely making enough money to warrant all the spending. The power use for AI generated slop is absurd. Take Sora, the really dumb thing is that within weeks an open source LLM video generator will be release by a Chinese developer and no one would need to pay OpenAI anything. Anthropic pulls in something like 3 million rev, OpenAI is estimated to be at 300m, but it spending/burning tens of Billions. You have to realize this is Dot Com 2.0, its a hype bubble and if they can't turn a profit in another year or two, the capital will be burned and the GPUs will need to be refreshed (these things have a limited useful life). Intellectual property laws are already being shredded by these LLM software companies and Congress is not smart enough to regulate it. All the talk of AGI is more hype, since the math behind LLMs is pretty obviously not the path to artificial general intel. Given the nature of the administration, we are a long ways away from the required regulations. I mean the Federal Government has failed to even secure its own systems properly, expecting the right actions to happen as fast as they need to is a pipe dream. The real fix would be a dramatic swing away from corporate greed and corrupt politicians, and I don't see pigs flying yet so its gonna be a minute.
