I remember back in the 1970's your average Senior in High School ALWAYS had a drivers license. Looking at historical records it was 88%. Today that number is 15% less. Why? Because for a lot of teenagers, they figure it's going to cost them less to Uber vs having their own car. If you look at Tesla's Robotaxi, once they ramp up to around 1M cars on the road, their cost per mile will end up being WAY less than Uber. Right from DAY ONE, they could offer Rideshare for $1 a mile, about HALF the price of Uber and Lyft and within just a few years they could get down to just around 50 cents a mile. Considering that the cost of ownership of your average car in the USA is $1.20 per mile, once you get down to 50 cents it's literally HALF the cost! Your assumptions are based on everyone buying their own Robotaxi, but I think a HUGE percentage won't buy one for themselves, but instead either just utilize existing robotaxi's or have their robotaxi take them to work, then go off giving other people's rides on Tesla's network. At that point, you end up with A LOT less cars on the road because most people won't own one. The biggest problem I see with public transportation is that it's not point to point so even if you take it, most people would STILL need a rideshare to take them to the public transport area then call another one to take them to the final spot. By utilizing a combo of 2 seat self driving Robotaxi's and strategically placed Boring Tunnels, you eliminate the issue of have to go from home to a rail station, then from there to your job or whatever. The Robotaxi takes you from point to point, then goes and gets someone else and drives them around.
