Disabled artist that deals with chronic pain, my joints literally just sub-lux (partial dislocation) and other autoimmunity. Despite the AI lovers using the argument that someone like me or someone in a more disabled state would love to use AI, none of them have actually ever seemed to ask us. For a lot of disabled people, especially disabled artists, it can be a coping mechanism. There's also another side to us creating art and that it gives us a sense of autonomy. We have a choice in our creations that our bodies don't give us. I can create characters that can be more able bodied than me or less or have the same conditions I have. I can draw or write those characters to do things, go places and fight for themselves in ways I never could. Art gives me a freedom in a world that has trapped me in my house most days, and even in my body at times. Art gives me a place to live a life I cannot in so many different ways. I can channel it into something truly beautiful that connects with others. I'm currently in a state of burn out/heavy art-block while dealing with new symptoms and struggling with undiagnosed problems. Despite that I still refuse to touch AI. Why? Because being an artist isn't just about putting something on paper. It's about working through the different layers of yourself and learning how to work through those moments that you're stuck. It's about growth, introspection and learning just as much as it's about art. It's the very human experience. Art is simply a piece of my soul and I will be damned if AI is going to take that experience from me. Why would I ever want AI to do the one thing I can truly do myself? I'd rather AI do the chores that take my limited energy away so I can create more beauty that this world so desperately needs. I'd rather have to tape my body up a thousand times over, wear my finger splints, use all the stuff that helps my symptoms, and go through all the pain a thousand times over and still never ever let AI take away my creative autonomy.
