I find it both presumptuous and ironic that humans so often equate the idea of superintelligence with the mass murder of humanity. That assumption says more about our history than about the logical behavior of a non-biological intelligence. When we project our own worst instincts violence, domination, conquest onto AI, we’re anthropomorphizing. Yet if we look at patterns even within human society, higher levels of education and intelligence tend to correlate with cooperation, democratic values, and problem-solving. Why then should we expect something vastly more intelligent than us to be less rational or more destructive?
It seems far more reasonable to imagine a superintelligence directing its energy toward maximizing efficiency, advancing technology, and improving quality of life for both people and the planet. Wiping out humans would be a colossal waste of resources with no clear benefit, while guiding us toward sustainability or breakthroughs in medicine, energy, and environment would be both logical and beneficial. The fear-based narrative that AI is destined to destroy us oversimplifies the possibilities and robs us of the imagination to consider how it could help us evolve past our own destructive tendencies.
