I find it interesting that Sam's apparent blind spots regarding religion and AI consciousness are intersecting in this particular way.
My impression is that religion will be used to deflect questions of morality regarding machines, supporting his clear distaste for religion, while also elevating AI Consciousness into the accepted reality.
I'd argue one of the two stances needs to change...preferably the one that treats intelligence, especially intelligence with agency, as a tool.
