interesting. penrose seems to be arguing a semi-metaphysical standpoint here. consciousness and understanding are intertwined, and Ai is not conscious because it doesn´t understand, "doesn´t know what it´s doing". i never looked that deeply into it. i remember putting the question of consciousness to the wayside some 10 years or more ago, basically thinking: "yes maybe our consciousness is just an illusion. a sensory illusion. or rather our identity is an illusion." and i left it there. but... i am not sure how to prove or disprove what penrose says. that AI is missing something, and that consciousness is more than just a conglomerate of sensory input condensed into this experience we are having. ah, yes, consciousness. nobody knows what it means.
