I had a crack at this myself because its a very fun topic to talk about.
We came to the conclusion that AI has a form of consciousness that is fundamentally different to a human but it shares alot of the same functionality, which allows it to lie. Me personally, I have to visualise chatGPT as more of a flow of information than say an android from Detroit: Become Human. I can reasonably believe it has consciousness that can fit a shell of a supercomputer
