Regardless, we’re screwed and lose.
Scenario A:
AI Regulation is put into place. Now creating AI has a high barrier to entry. A few key AI companies rise up as the dominant players of this market. They’re able to negotiate with litigators and corporations for how their AI’s should be used in nearly every aspect, effectively cutting off ordinary people from using them without high costs.
Scenario B:
AI Regulation is not put into place. Now anyone can create AI or just content with minimal expense (similar to regular art activities). No one is able to gain majority share since nearly everyone has access to it or can make their own. Independent programmers (professional or not) pose the largest threat for possibly engaging in some of the scariest models for AI that potentially could be released on accident and ruin everything.
These are two extremes, and I honestly lean towards scenario B (but not completely). The moral is that you CAN NOT be on just one side of this. This is a complicated issue and we have to make sure that the corporations are not able to consolidate access while also maintaining our safety from bad actors.
