At the end of the day, Opt Out for anything is total garbage. Everything should be Opt In. The big problem is that governments and law enforcement agencies are opting in on our behalf and that is completely unacceptible. Now, when we talk about AI - what we are experiencing is not really AI, but better and improved algorithms and over 30 years in the field there is one constant that never changes, and has been since the 1950's GIGO - Garbage In, Garbage Out. Something I have noted over recent years is that since the invent of so-called AI, the algorithms used in search engines has made decent fact finding more and more difficult. Make what you will of that, but based on current trends of cancel culture and wokeness I see a corollary effect. With the current trend of using modern programs to write music or create imagery the discussions going on amongst artists and composers is exactly how difficult it actually is to prove that their IP has not been used to fine tune the algorithms. Over the next few years I expect a lot of heated courtroom arguments, because what is going to happen is that people who do not care about someone elses artistry will pick bits and pieces to create something. This has been happening in music for ages - sampling. I expect sampling used to write papers or complete exams by lazy students will slip by for a few years until the same stuff starts coming across examiners desks. Not new - heck, Joe Biden is well known for plagiarizing. AI - True AI will come about when systems write their own programming and that is a very scary scenario.
