This is insane and tragic. I have a friend who works as a programmer for a self-driving truck company. Their vehicles are tested on private roads until they have 100% safety rate. Then all the public road tests are heavily supervised with a driver in the cab. Musk's infamous pressure-cooker culture at Tesla is encouraging engineers to subvert logical safety measures that other companies have shown work.
