The tremendous demands that the AI data centers put on environmental resources is yet another concern. They require an enormous amount of electricity and water. And of course, there is then the ripple effects of financial costs to those in the local communities, potential displacement from homes, and all sorts of other issues that could arise. Given all this, I also find it ironic that one of the purported uses of AI is to help solve climate change.
