On the note of AGI... Do we have to take it seriously? Well... maybe this guy doesn't. But if your line is "i don't take it seriously because it can't do literally everything as well as if not better than a professional" then you might be kinda dumb. What it can already do, is pull from a base of knowledge about as specific as your average specialized professional has. That is enough to take it seriously. It is true that the machinery is not yet there in terms of AGI, but it's not all that far behind either. It's already possible to train one physical robot to preform tasks in a space, and then to download that programming into others. While the AGI may not be conducting lab work any time soon, it is definitely capable of replacing any given human on an assembly line, or when it comes to coding. There are people who "don't have to take it seriously" because they're either old enough, or locked into the system enough, but anybody under 20 is going to face the real possibility of not having a job available, or having the kind of job available that treats you like a robot because the implicit social contract is that you could be replaced with one. We should be figuring out how to pivot for a world where people aren't forced to have jobs they don't want and making sure the tools to replace those jobs are safe and efficent. If we try to pretend this "technological revolution" is going to be the same as the other ones then we're going to end up begging our corporate overlords for jobs which they will grant as a novelty because "authentic human labor" is good PR. Now maybe none of the dudes on this podcast will see it, but i'd go as far as to say anybody under 30 has a significant chance of living in that world. Unless we can handle AI with care, and with our best foot forward.
