All these experts keep talking about what AI is going to do but not what it's already doing. Particularly the data centers that require millions of gallons of water to function & cool down. The pollution & blighting of low income communities in mass, growing health risks to people etc. Not to mention the devastation of what's happening in Congo to obtain cobalt & coltan for servers . Congo also has vast reserves of nickel & lithium. AI data centers require consistent and uninterrupted electricity, necessitating uninterruptible power supplies, so these systems incorporate battery backup. Lithium, cobalt, and nickel are essential components of battery chemistry. Most of these minerals are abundant in many African countries, technological advancement seem to be at the expense of Africa & Africans. And it's EXTREMELY disappointing for someone who is also African like Steven to not shed some much needed light on that. And how that CAN be addressed right now.
