These are largely the same arguments they used to defend NFTs, and we saw how that worked out, lol. Tech bros are so obsessed with replicating art because they've never had a single original thought in their heads. They're always just chasing whatever the current trend is.
AI is pretty useful for coding and scientific breakthroughs, but I don't see AI art putting real artists out of business any more than I see tacky $100 cheaply made suits putting well made, hand crafted Tuxedos out of business.
