One thing you said that really landed with me was this: “The very fact that you watch my shitty video of me yapping is proof that humans creating content and expressing themselves innately has value.” I agree with that completely. We do come for the human inside the work. The personality, the perspective, the intent—that’s what makes art feel like connection instead of noise. Where I’d love to gently widen the frame is this: for some of us, AI isn’t a replacement for that human connection. It’s the only reason we get to participate in it at all. I’m a cognitively impaired, neurodivergent creator (Autism, ADHD, c-PTSD, trauma history). My brain can do deep patterning, storytelling, and emotional work—but it absolutely struggles with things like: holding a whole draft in my head at once restructuring big blocks of text translating what I mean into clean, readable language without dropping threads For me, AI isn’t “press button, get slop.” It’s closer to a cognitive wheelchair or a scribe that helps me externalize what’s already in my mind. I’m still the one: deciding what the story is about choosing the themes, arcs, and emotional beats revising, rejecting, and steering until it actually sounds like me The model is not the artist. The model is the tool that lets this particular artist function at all. When you say “there’s no point to art that isn’t made by someone,” I feel that. But in my case, the “someone” is still very much there — she just needs assistive tech to get her art over the finish line. So when people talk about banning AI outright or treating any AI-assisted work as “soulless,” it doesn’t just come across as anti-slop. It can also sound like: “Only people whose brains work like mine deserve to make art. If you need a prosthesis, your work doesn’t count.” I don’t think that’s what you mean. But that’s how it lands for disabled and ND artists who are finally able to show up creatively because this tech exists. I’m with you on corporate slop, engagement-optimized sludge, and replacing human artists to save a line item. I just want to add one more piece to the conversation: Sometimes AI doesn’t erase the human in the art. Sometimes it’s the thing that finally lets her be seen.
