Even if we could be sure AI will preserve what "we" value, who determines what that is? Some humans value profit above all else. Some value control, power, domination, et al. Very few, in fact, value preservation, success and liberty, and fewer still value such things for everyone.
The odds humanity is capable of even choosing to teach the right things to AI, are lower than the likelihood it would hold to those aims.
