Pattern recognition is not "AI" despite the marketing. It's only part of what humans do. We have a "theory of mind" where we imagine ourselves in the the position of other road users so we can guess what they will do next.
I live in a valley frequented by recreational users. You can come around a corner to be confronted by farm machinery, a bunch of cyclists, walkers on the road, horses being ridden, escaped sheep and so on. My favourite challenge is deer at night which can only be seen by the light reflected from their eyes just before they leap from the verge into the middle of the road. We are still a long way from so called AI being able to handle such environments.
