To be fair, the accident is NOT the issue. We can’t expect perfect safety from self driving, as we don’t have it with human drivers either. We will still likely to demand significant improvements, not just to match a human driver, but accidents will happen, which is not a reason to not use self driving.
And the liable will be the insurance company in the end after this becomes widespread and not just experimental. Because who else? And insurance will change the premium depending on the make and model of the self driving unit.
This is NOT an excuse for false claims about the capabilities, which is a good reason for lawsuit.
