AI is a tool like a knife. You make delicious meals, fix stuff, chop or sculpt wood or you can put it to far more nepharious use, like any other tech we ever made. AI is not dangerous, it's risky. That's the difference. Risk can be mitigated but this needs AI to be controlled by the people not a couple of multibillionaires and corporations. I respect this guy, but from a biologist perspective, he is off. AI, even the most powerful models we have are far, way far from biological intelligence. They are basically at the level of a talking mouse plugged on wikipedia. Most people hugely missjudge our brains and what they do and how they do it. In comparison, the state of art neural networks are 1% of the brain of a old man with Alzheimer's disease. They can't learn in real-time, they can't process and adapt in real-time and most of all, they are 100% dependant on human physical labour for energy. Plus one thing that is hugely, underestimated as well, is our capacity to smash things :D On the cyberattack front, we already use AI for red teaming, so as long as the good guys have better AI than the bad actors, we should catch the cyber treats but that again means giving free reign to cybersecurity firms to build the best AIs without any regulations as do the criminals. I think, that we won't have more joblessness but just a shift to real or usefull jobs, from physical ones to research because there is one thing that is unlimited, it's the amount of things we don't know and we need real-world data and experiments for that and that quite a nice perspective.
