Ok, I gonna have to be a bit controversial here. But still, let me preface this by saying I am NOT defending this person specifically. I do not know enough about the case and he does seem to be in the wrong here. The only thing that I want to do is defend AI art in general a bit. Back when photography was invented many of the arguments speaking out against photography as an art form were eerily similar to the arguments against AI. Namely drawing/ painting/ sculpting something takes real talent and years of training. Taking a picture is something anyone can do. Just press a button. Got a finger? Great, you're good to go. Today I think this has shifted. We know that not every picture is a piece of art. Most of them aren't. But there are some, that we would absolutely call art. In that way the camera has become a tool. One that can be used for everyday tasks but also, on occasion, for the creation of art. In a very similar way I think that's the course that AI art will take. Contrary to what many people seem to believe I genuinely think that there is more to it than "just" typing the words. I think there are uses of this technology that have yet to be discovered. I agree that it is MUCH easier to make something pretty using AI than actually drawing yourself. No question about that. But making something truly unique, that is not just the combination of things that already exist in a stolen style from another artist, that is something else entirely. So by all means, let this goober have it. But don't bring down AI art alltogether. I think there is some true value to be found there.
