The saving grace, so I think, is also the unpredictably of mankind. AI is built on data sets established by mankind so it computes its rationale based off such knowledge. But what happens, in a super-intelligence zeitgeist? Where all things are (including the knowledge gleaned) are fabricated from the recycled knowledge of yesteryears (aka humans). I can see one of two things: total collapse of society writ large and thereby the end of AI and techno advancements or two, mankind "cheating" AI dominance because of mankind's sheer free will. It is in my opinion that despite American technological strength, the American military remains the worlds most feared due to the American warriors ethos of adaptability. This cultural attribute of successfully amending operational plans on the fly is strictly a human capability and one I think will prevent AI from every truly ever seizing the hill of our global destiny.
