When push comes to shove, we are not afraid of AI, we are afraid of ourselves and how we will use AI to give ourselves an advantage over others, and how it will be used against us. ('We' refers to individuals AND groups) AI will never have discernment because AI will never have a soul, that can be scary, or comforting. AI will, however, become a very good reflection of our souls because all the millions of binary choices it has at its disposal each reflect a tiny fragment of the agglomerate of humanity in its database, so it can APPEAR to have a soul. This will make it easy to fool ourselves. We are right to question the mostly selfish motivations of humanity. The nuclear bomb was developed as a necessary tool for good, to be used against the wickedly bad. Today, that 'tool' is wielded by a large number of countries as a cudgel to fulfill desires. The battle is always the same, morality vs immorality, proton balancing electron, heat vs cold, etc. As the Bible says (paraphrase), "We don't wrestle with physical things in this world, the battle is spiritual and moral. Everything else is just a tool." Humanity will make the mistake of looking to a tool to save them (ie, save themselves), and they will ignore the Great Spiritual Leader. THAT is something to be afraid of as it always has been, and always will be...
