Calling a machine "racist" is personifying it. The machine is not "racist", it's just logically more difficult to find contrast (and thus find a face) in a dark skin tone.
It's possible that the majority of training data used for these machines is also white people (if they even work like that) which would make the people who chose the data racist (maybe not even on purpose) but not the machine.
I don't understand the automatic dispenser thing tho. Like, shouldn't it be _EASIER_ and not harder to see a black hand on top of the white sink background? That's just weird. And also, yeah it's funny for a bit, but I really hope they're fixing it cause like come on.
