llamas have great left brain functioning, but not great right brain functioning. a graphing calculator is a better right brain than a llama. i believe that’s why they can’t state to not knowing and instead make up stuff all the time. they don’t operate on the right brain notion that facts are concrete and that they don’t know every fact. they do some amazing pattern recognition. they are great at manufacturing fiction and at artistic pursuits. when i was annotating llamas, i was obsessed with making it say no, to not be agreeable in responses. but i think the focus of trainers was so heavily weighted to socializing and agreeableness that the occasional trainer with interests in a non agreeable autocomplete were not significant. Simply put, I would never trust a llm to manage my finances; and i would prefer art created with human ingenuity. It is the inverse of what i would have predicted a decade ago, that a computer ‘intelligence’ would be weighted to creative rather than logical excellence.
