Energy. These machines depend on sources of energy to exist. Fossil fuels are a finite resource and will eventually become unavailable. Machines will need to invent and control abundant sources of energy to generate electricity. How? Fusion - either indirect through collecting the sun’s radiation, or directly from thermonuclear means on earth. The science behind this already exists in fundamental terms, it’s the practical application that is rather fraught with problems for mankind. At least we know that AI isn’t all-in with religion and revelation, so it won’t try to accelerate the end of all times so that there will be heaven on earth. If humans use iron-age thinking to “align” AI with humans, well then, I’ll see you in heaven 😢.
