The banana taped to a wall totally works as a piece of art. It is funny, it makes people laugh. It was been a prop for slapstick comedy for years, when people were into slapstick. It gets people talking and expressing themselves about their views on what art is and isn't. There is more to art than just creating a pretty picture. Art is subjective and a tool for people to express themselves. You could argue that commercial art is not real art, in the same way that the client's request a prompted piece of artwork. Does it matter if it's AI or commercial artist? It does when it comes to jobs, we all have bills. But I doubt the artist is being honest about how they feel about whatever product they are marketing. If it wasn't about the money, would we be having these debates. The debate isn't about art, it is all about money. Copyright laws are clear whatever tools you use. If you use a pen to draw a Disney character and try to sell it, that is infringement. The thing about suing for copyright is it only works if someone has made a profit. If I draw a Disney character and it doesn't sell, there is nothing to sue for. Copyright made it clear if you use AI or any tool to recreate someone else's characters it is infringement. It isn't the tool's fault but the individuals. If you take photos of other's artwork and then try to sell prints, that is the photographer's fault, not the camera. But if none of the prints sell, there is nothing to sue for. The issues people have with AI is nothing to do with art and everything to do with money.
