The only reason I'm "against" copyright (especially in its current form) is because I'm also against capitalism, and especially how big corporations can just own a whole IP (instead of the individuals who actually created the IP), and abuse that copyright (including, as you said, needlessly cracking down on fans). But it is obvious that we do need a way to protect intellectual property and make sure creators are able to live from their art. I'm just questioning the specific way it's done currently.
In other words, one can be against copyright, at least in its current form, but still in favour of defending the intellectual property of individuals; it's not necessarily contradictory.
(Just to be clear, what I'm saying is not an argument in favour of generative AI in any way, shape, or form. These people are against copyright because they're just against intellectual property of any kind, including the simplest act of crediting someone for their hard work. Screw them.)
