I think people who board the AI hype train, at their core, are not artists. At best, they have no interest in the creative process, and at worst, they despise it. There's nothing wrong with not being an artist, *BUT* this means they fail to understand why mass-produced slop doesn't sell like real work made by real people. When it comes to AI stories, AI folks don't seem to grasp that 'plot' is not all it takes to write a good story. A real writer understands that their story needs things like nuance, themes, foreshadowing, character growth, pacing, balance, tone, twists, and any combination of these elements and more. Every AI-generated story that's ever been published (of which I've read several) lacks *any* of these. Unsurprisingly, I've yet to see any of these stories receive anything resembling critical acclaim. In my opinion, AI is just the next evolution of corporate greed. Money-minded people see it as a way to print free product and rake in tons of cash through volume, rather than quality. They assume you can do this with books and art -- but they couldnt be more wrong. Is AI unethical? Yes. Will AI replace us as artists? I highly doubt it.
