Everything would be solved if the generative AI companies monetized the artists they were using their work to train the AI for.
"Hey, we like your art. We'll give you a small fraction of our profits from paying customers each time someone uses our product if you let our AI use your work as reference."
The artist gets paid, the generative AI company gets paid, and the customer requesting the AI pictures gives them both money. Everyone wins.
