I used to have the standpoint of "ai is a tool" and "it's completely ethical if the artists opt in" and I do still KIND OF think that but the more time that passes the more I find myself disgusted by ai and I really resonate with miyazaki saying that it's an insult to life itself. I am absolutely the target demographic for these ai art tools, the music tools, I've always wanted to do art but I've always thought I'm not good enough to even try, I think if I was just a few years younger when this ai craze started I would have been swept up in it easily but looking at it now all I feel is a sense of disgust. I do understand the want for easy money, I've been broke my whole life and would probably benefit from setting up one of those stupid ai reddit tiktok content farms or ai art videos but I just CANNOT do that to myself, I cannot rationalize something that feels like a slap in the face to many many people I care about who DID take the time to practice, to hone their craft. I have so much respect for them. AI is a tool but it is being used to avoid living. It's actually inspired me to pick a few of my old hobbies back up and try to create things again, it's been a lot of fun.
