Transformer models are a series of mathematical functions that you could compute with pen and paper, we use variables like temperature and top P to get them to appear non-deterministic but any result even with these args can be recalculated.
Human minds are extremely sensitive to environmental and biological factors, our minds are never in the same state twice and we continuously update our world model as we experience and interact with the world.
It’s not theoretically impossible to build a more human-like artificial intelligence but it’s clear transformers are quite different, although I’m firmly in the camp that transformers are evidently a miracle technology for the automation of labor in non-creative and non-interpersonal work.
