The craziest thing is that AI doesn't really exist. It's not intelligent. It doesn't have any real understanding of anything. It's just a fancy prediction engine, and it has no idea when it's making mistakes. By some reports, 95% of deployments in business are failing. You're on the right track when it comes to making corporations democratic. It turns out government can't successfully regulate everything. When corporations don't take into consideration their overall effects on society, and even cyncically calculate when to obey the laws and respect the regulations that do exist, it is very clear that what used to constitute democracy 50 years ago simply isn't enough anymore. Radical democratization is necessary, and employees should have much more say over top level decision-making - and for very large and powerful corporations, the general public should have a say as well. In addition to this, the law should be changed with an eye to making businesses and ownership radically more transparent. There are good reasons for businesses to wish to hide information and not all corporate secrecy is always bad, but on balance, society has much more to gain than to lose by requiring businesses to operate transparently with transparent ownership. There are no truly good reasons why the public should not be allowed to review every detail in the tax matters of every corporation - at least not compared to the many good reasons that exist why we should. The whole system is rigged towards protecting the interests of the few and powerful at the expense of the many, and that is the best proof that democracy isn't working as well as it should, and nothing could be of greater importance than addressing this shortcoming. It is the most important thing we can do not just to possibly provide some protection from AI ending civilization, but equally for the rest of the list of super important challenges - climate change, pollution, resource depletion, increasing wealth and power concentration, economic and social regression for large parts of the population, our failure to take out productivity increases in the form of more leisure time and generally higher quality of life, and surely more.
