Waymo is stuck in the past. Tons of expensive sensors retrofitted to a car. Every road it drives on needs to be specially mapped and have perfect lane markings. It can’t drive in the rain, and if it gets into a situation where things aren’t quite perfect, there’s no one there to correct it. Tesla on the other hand, plop it on a dirt road in the middle of no where and it will drive great. Not to say it’s perfect but there’s a person there to catch it if it’s doing something it shouldn’t. Oh, and it’s way cheaper, because the car is meant to drive itself when it rolls off the production line.
