Poverty makes these people unable to afford comissions. Artists have to charge because they too are impoverished. Insecurity makes them unable to fail enough times to learn for themselves. Artists refuse to engage, and rightfully so, with their learned helplessness. Because they refuse to allow themselves to be bad at something before they get good at it, and because they can not afford to commission... Art has become this commodity that they do not believe they can access or create by hand. They call it blue blood because they see a commission price they can not afford and assume that means you are rich. They disparage your effort because they have to believe in talent as an immutable characteristic or else their ego has no protection from "I failed and gave up, so it is my fault." They have to blame something external. We don't need art tutorials or AI or to create all the messy drama around artists. (Screw the current AI thing, though.) What we need is therapy that is free at the point of service, and a re-orienting of society to distribute resources. That way artists no longer have to charge for commissions and people who want to learn for themselves have the time and energy and self-confidence to fail a lot before they get better.
