How is it smarter to pick someone up later. It is more conformable to be sitting in a car than waiting and you arent stressed out your car is driving away. Imagine its 100 degree heat or raining. What behavior do you want?
The travel time is exactly the same, you are just either waiting outside or driving in the car.
