I find it so bizarre that people anticipate AI becoming better at drawing than the best artists, or smarter than the smartest people. It will be in the sense that it’s much faster, but it makes absolutely no sense when you consider how these things are trained. AI isn’t just rapidly ’becoming better’, it’s specifically becoming more like it’s training data, which will only ever be like the people who made it. It’s not made to surpass its training data, only replicate it. I think this comes from the assumption that AI is built on gaining actual intelligence, and not just imitating intelligence. If it was actually intelligent, it could theoretically keep becoming smarter forever at the speed it’s going. But because the goal is imitation, sure it could get really good at being exactly like a person, but it will never be more than that.
