This is a tricky debate. After thinking about it more deeply, my conclusion is that it’s actually not stealing if it’s using data to create something net new. It’s stealing if it recreates the exact same work as an output. Every one of these artists “stole” their ideas from other people’s work just at a much slower non digitized way. Most of the people that complain about this are not surprising…creators. I get it, but instead of complaining about inevitable change…start thinking about how you can leverage AI to be more creative or building another skill that will be valuable in light of the way society is changing.
