I retired from teaching at University college in Sydney Australia 18 months ago for a number of reasons, with one being students getting away with using ChatGPT to write their essays. Our students were on academic pathway programs so they had a lower academic capability, and it was obvious they did not write these themselves. I would even have a 1 on 1 interview with a few and ask them to explain what was written and none could. Most even admitted to me they cheated. Yet the uni told us teachers to just mark their work as normal and let them pass. That was the straw that broke the camels back for me. No more. I'm done.
