Even the largest oil tanker in the world only has a crew of about 40 people. Thats to run a ship that is 458m long and 564,763 tons. All of that is because of automation. No one is lamenting the loss of sailing jobs or of elevator operator jobs. In time drone vehicles will be the same. In the easily predictable future you will not have a lawn care truck pull up with 2-6 large sun burned laborers. You will have an automated truck that will deliver a lawn care robot. The robot will do the work and be picked up by a truck when its done. This will save many lives because lawn care workers are more likely to die on the job than a police officer is. This isn't something to sneer at. We are on the verge of being able to free the vast majority of humanity form the shackles of labor jobs. The number of people needed to maintain the engines of society will be a tiny fraction of humanity. The rest of society will be free to learn, study , make scientific discoveries and create art. Imagine just how many minds have been wasted throughout human history plowing a field when that mind could have been the next Hawking or Jobs if they had had the opportunity. But the pressure of making money and feeding a family prevented it. Capitalism will get us there but at some point we will have to change the way society is arranged. Think star trek not Communist Russia. although that time is probably a few generations away.
