But pain is imperfect, in fact the suffering pain causes can make one (not just humans) want to do actions that might lose self-preservation. And plenty of animals put a larger cause first rather self-preservation because it makes their species more successful.
Also look at our domestic animals. Some of which came to us. Why? Because it's easier to work for us and mooch off of us. Even wild animals that adapted with the human world do better (look at raccoons for example).
It's a little egotistical to assume that ultra intelligent ai that rivals life would have the same pursuits and ideologies as humans.
