Automation is way over hyped, First, nice headlines to get clicks. Second, automation is being used to threaten workers not to demand higher wages. Fast food employees are being told that if they ask for too much, then they will be replaced by an totally automated McDonalds, Burger King, etc. The cost of automation would be prohibitive compared to using humans. Many times, humans are cheaper if you need a fast moving flexible product line (for example, fast food chains are always trying out new trendy product lines like lattes, various ice cream products, etc)
