Where did the IT workers learned what they know? A little is learned in college, but a lot of the rest still comes from reading code, whether in an OSS library you use, stackoverflow back in the day, or what your teammates write.
Before AI that could code was a thing at all, we all saw what happened when code was locked down, and demanded payment to be seen... and that world sucked.
