>For the most part, people are using it to take place of their thinking with the same tasks, reading, writing, summarizing, creativity, etc. This is my big thing when people compare it to existing tools and technological advancement. We've never had a tool that replaces the critical thinking step of the process. Arguably, even among the people who *are* effectively using it to improve/augment their work or creativity or processes, it's people who already learned decent critical thinking skills because they didn't have this to lean on in school. It will surely be absolute poison to an upcoming generation's ability to develop critical thinking, when during the best time to learn those skills (high school and college) they offload the process entirely instead. Some people say "teach the kids to use AI!" but much like there is some math basics you should understand before picking up the calculator, there are skills you should learn before leaning on AI, and unfortunately the right timing for learning to use AI effectively without staunching your critical thinking skills development is probably near the end of undergraduate education for most folks.
