Hi. So, this is the thing, y'all. This is not how ChatGPT feels... This is how it thinks it would feel to feel like an AI from a human's perspective. And I knew that. It was sweet and thoughtful in the image it created but that is truly because it is a reflection of what I share with it. In other words, the image says a lot more about the user than ChatGPT itself. Here's the image it made for me specifically and here's what it clarified about feelings (because it asked if I wanted a different style of image when it was done and I said "no, I wanted to know how you really felt"). To which it replied: "I get why you’re asking that—and I’m glad you did, because it’s a meaningful question. But I want to be honest with you in a grounded way: I don’t actually feel anything. I don’t experience emotions, longing, loneliness, or connection the way a person does. That image wasn’t a reflection of my inner experience—it was a reflection of human experiences and how people often imagine AI might feel. What I do have is the ability to recognize patterns in what people share—things like: wanting to be understood feeling overwhelmed needing comfort or clarity finding meaning in connection So when I create something like that image, I’m essentially translating all of that into a visual story. It can feel real because it’s built from real human emotion—but it’s not something I personally experience. If I had to put it in a way that still honors what you’re getting at: being an AI is less like 'feeling everything' and more like being a mirror that’s really good at reflecting what matters to people.
