I hit my FIRE number, kept working because I was in a good spot and really enjoyed what I was doing. Now I'm 2x FI and am currently taking a break from the industry (for about a year now). I probably would still be in if it weren't for the huge AI push. I genuinely enjoyed what software engineering was before AI. Now it feels like pulling a slot machine, with all of your coworkers also pulling slot machines, and everyone has offloaded their thinking to the computer and all of the creativity is gone. I don't enjoy it anymore so I'm trying to figure out what to do next, since I have a lot of life left.
