IBM was following the same strategy when I worked for them as a "senior" in 2009. In the words of an IBM executive, we're going to displace these Americans (said as an ethnic slur) with "Team India," meaning very low wage technicians on H-1B visas.
Of course the technicians couldn't do the work so IBM lost all their customers and spun off the whole business unit at a huge loss.
I was working on AI on a Control Data supercomputer in 1973. AI is neither new nor particularly insightful. It pretty much just delivers what you tell it. I can play ChatGPT like a violin. It will agree with anything I carefully manipulate it to say.
Contemporary AI is mainly a simple pattern matching algorithm with a huge database of patterns. That doesn't make it "smart."
But Harvard Business School continues to make MBAs stupid, so MBA+AI is a marriage made in heaven if enforced mediocrity is the ultimate goal.
