Happened to us gen x ers too, in early 90s. I recall going to a 2nd round job interview right after college where 60 of us were vying for 2 spots at a retail bank entry level training program. Only the best of the best got “real” jobs out of college. The rest of us had to take jobs that typically didn’t require college degrees, until the market loosened up. We’re talking customer service, waiters/waitresses, pizza delivery, etc. We rented a run down house where 5 of us lived together as that’s all we could afford. Watching a decade later as millennials got to pick and choose whatever jobs they wanted and complain about great opportunities that they got fueled my perception about entitlement. I wish today’s youngsters much luck. We didn’t have AI to compete with … seems very scary to me.
