A friend of mine lives in California. Apparently Self-driving cars are extremely easy targets for muggers and thieves because they can stand in front of the vehicle, stopping it cold while their buddy menaces the passenger for their valuables at knifepoint. The vehicle can't stop it from happening, the vehicle can't meaningfully prevent the muggers from entering the vehicle, and the vehicle can't contact the police.
at least with a Taxi or an Uber, the driver's got a gun and not enough sleep to even attempt to resolve this sort of situation peacefully.
