Even ignoring one's personal stance on AI in general... What the fuck? This might be the fault of how fragmented the quote is, but what is he even saying? If he's asking "why are people buying products from Asian countries", this time India in particular, it's because they are WAY cheaper and, for several people, the only thing they can afford in the first place. Why would the average consumer buy more for effectively the same product unless they are actively trying to make a point?
If he's asking "why are people paying for AI?", well, in that case that's because all the newer models from the US aren't free either; you have to either buy individiual tokens or buy a subscription (Which really is the same thing, but automated).
And if he's asking something else entirely yet, I have no idea, but he really should just say what he wants then.
Oh, also:
Quote:
In a diatribe targeting the BRICS nations, Mr. Navarro had said the "bottom line" is that none of the countries in the grouping can "survive if they don't sell to the United States.\[...\]"
On a country level? Oh, they absolutely can. The US might be the largest single power, and losing them as a customer would hurt like hell for anyone, nobody is unreplaceable. Individual companies might fall off, the country might even spiral into a recession, but they \*will\* recover. Now, for the other side of the pond though; Let's say the entire world just collectively said (not gonna happen, but bear with me for a moment) "Screw you, America, we're not going to sell anything to you anymore." Who do you think would get hit the hardest? All the rest of the world, which can still do business with one another just fine? Or the United States, which suddenly can't import anything at all anymore.
